Yes, it is already 2021.
Last year was released as the clock turned from December 31, 2020 to January 1, 2021.
I know many of us are so busy filling the cups of others that we forget to fill our own.
I was guided to share some great ways to give yourself some love aka self-care.
Self-care is more than mani/pedi or a haircut.
Did you know there are 4 aspects to self-care?
Emotional, Physical, Psychological + Soul
Let me start off by saying, self-care isn’t frivolous. It is any activity that enhances our mind, body, heart + soul.
Here are some gentle ways you can love on yourself as part of your self-care routine:
- Focus on Relaxing: this can be deep breathing, long baths, yoga or listening to music.
- Call a friend: chatting with a friend helps you know you are not alone.
- Unplug: turn off your phone, computer, tablet + TV: a short break from constant notifications or negative information helps break the stress cycle.
- Laugh: laughter is a great way to lower stress + raise your vibration. Pick a funny show + let the laughter flow from you.
- Journal: writing down your feelings is great for releasing + moving through some of your emotions. Plus, you never know what great idea will pop out as well.
- Set boundaries: it’s okay to say ‘no’ to an invitation from a friend. Boundaries help us keep balance in life.
- Move your body: go for a walk, dance in the kitchen or doing a workout. Your body was meant to move, so move it. Plus, this is another great way to raise your vibration, aka joy + happiness.
- Limit caffeine, sugar + alcohol: who doesn’t want a boost in the afternoon with a sugar snack? It usually leads to feeling lethargic later on + possibly overeating at your next meal.
- Practice meditation: it’s a great way to relax + clear your mind of the clutter of the day. Some of my best ideas are coming when I meditate.
- Get enough sleep: running on less than 7 hours of sleep leaves most of us drained. Plan out your evening so you can get to bed early enough to have 7 to 8 hours of great sleep. Remember to avoid anything that will stimulate you before bed, such as caffeine, eating late, social media.
I know, many of us skip our self-care routine when we become stressed. This is the biggest disservice we do to ourselves.
Take some time (5 minutes) to give yourself some extra love through at least 1 of the above self-care ideas.
